The Dominican Republic was the first area to become popular for growing tobacco outside of Cuba. The consistent, tropical climate is perfect for growing tobacco, and this is not lost on cigar manufacturers. Big brands such as Arturo Fuente, La Aurora, Macanudo, Montecristo & Romeo y Julieta have flourished here for decades.
Known for producing some of the best mild-medium cigars around, Dominican tobacco has a solid place in the cigar industry. But don't get blind-sided by this comment. There are some powerhouses making their way out of the Dominican these days too.
